Ah yes. Another blog about Performance Testing. There seem to be a lot of these popping up in the last year or so. So, what makes mine different from the others? That's a good question, really. I thought about that quite a lot before starting this blog in the first place.
There are lots of smart people out there writing about designing performance tests. And, there are plenty of people out there who know LoadRunner or some other toolkit better than I do.
What I don't see is many people writing about analyzing the tests after they've run. Analysis is hard, and it tends to be platform specific. But, I don't think it has to be. From what I have seen, there are patterns....characteristic symptoms that tend to look the same and point towards the same things even on very different platforms.
That's what this blog is about. It's about the analysis of performance test results, and the patterns that we can see when we visualize the results in certain ways. As much as possible, I will keep the articles here platform and toolkit agnostic. Oh, I'll mention where they come from, but not so much as to keep the technique from being reused elsewhere. To reach that state of platform and tool agnostic analysis, we're going to be delving into a few other fun topics. We'll look at statistics (no fancy formulas, I promise) and we'll delve a bit into business intelligence. (Yeah, techies borrowing cool stuff from business. Imaine that.)
It should be a lot of fun. I know I enjoy it. :)
